YOUTH PROGRAMS AT BATAVIA LODGE

Rainbow Girls - Harmony #118

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG) is a Masonic youth organization which teaches leadership training through community service. Girls (ages 11–20/21) learn about the value of charity and service through their work and involvement with their annual local and Grand (state or country) service projects.

In 1922, Rainbow was created for young women whose fathers were members of the Masonic Lodge, and their friends. Although a Christian minister named W. Mark Sexson founded the organization, today the leaders of Rainbow Girls respect and welcome all girls from every religion. Their main focus is more on the spiritual principles of being a kind and caring person. While the Rainbow practices and programs continue to evolve, the basic teachings of faith, hope, and charity remain a cornerstone of this dynamic girl’s youth group.

DeMolay - David M. Wheeler Chapter

The Order of DeMolay was founded in 1919 in Kansas City, Mo, by Dad Frank Sherman Land. The Order began with nine young men on a baseball team and one man. DeMolay originally was for young men who lost their father in World War I and who needed a Father figure in their life. Since 1919, the Order of DeMolay has built many leaders in cities, states, and nation.

The Order of DeMolay takes its name from Jacques DeMolay. DeMolay was the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar. He was born in 1244 and at the age of 21 he joined the Order of the Kinghts Templar. In 1298, he was named Grand Master of the Knights. The Knights came under attack by Pope Clement and Phillip the Fair France and in 1307, DeMolay and many of his comrades were captured. After seven years of trial and torture Jacques DeMolay was burned at the stake on March 18, 1314 for not betraying his comrades or revealing the secrets of the Order.

We meet on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month at the Batavia Masonic Temple:  28 N. VanNortwick, Batavia, IL
